Problem Knees


Years after a knee injury heals, the joint may hurt
or feel stiff, and some people develop a form of
arthritis; some strategies for staying active:

If you are heavy, lose weight
Try to consume fewer calories and
increase your activity in ways that put the least stress on your knee



Look for safe exercise
To stay active without causing additional knee damage,
try low-impact exercises, such as bicycling and swimming

Consider medicines, supplements
A doctor or pharmacist can advise you on using
acetaminophen, ibuprofen, aspirin, other non-
prescription pain medicines. He or she can also
advise you on nutritional supplements such as
glucosamine or chondroitin, which help some people
(purity and content of these products may not
be reliable because they are not government regulated)

Consider a knee brace or cane
Some problems knee can be stabilised with a brace,
and using canehelps some people reduce knee pain
