Editor's Notes & Readers Views
They have murdered Danial Pearl; a journalist and a human being. The shameless perpetrators call themselves as Muslims and Pakistanis.
“Killing of one human being is killing of the whole humanity.” This is what we had been hearing since our birth in a Muslim society in Pakistan. Fortunately, we the majority in Pakistan not only hear or say this, but practice it too. But as is everywhere, here too we have a few black sheeps or dirty stinking fish out to pollute the clean tranquil waters. In fact, they are neither Muslims nor Pakistanis. They are not even human beings. They are terrorist and terrorists have no religion or identity. The whole nation is saddened and condemns this terrorist act. It sure is another dirty trick of enemies of humanity and freedom to destabilize the region. We condemn strongly this gruesome act and the whole nation stand behind the present regime in their resolve to rid Pakistan of terrorism. Our heartfelt sympathy to the brewed family and friends of slain journalist.
Elsewhere, the barbaric atrocities are continued to be committed by Israeli forces in Middle East and by Indians in Kashmir. Hundreds of innocent lives are being lost. While the American President has started retracting his “Axis of evil” rhetoric, the Indian forces massed on Indo Pak borders are still finding a “face saving excuse” to retract their unjustified move forward. We hope Indian leaders shall find some means to send their forces to peace locations sooner than later. “We only reacted to Indian move…. Why they moved to the borders? We don’t know… How and when should they move back?… We don’t know. It is their headache… we only know that every Indian move shall get befitting response from us.” A Pak official says it all!!!
Happy Eid ul Azha and good reading.

Turns a new leaf
Time has come to say enough, we will not allow exploitation of fellow citizens. Most blasphemy cases seem related to property, greed and intolerance. Our judiciary needs all the help to make them deliver what is “justly” their duty. If ever there was a need for military intervention, it is in these cases. From registration of cases to courts the army should be involved. Cases which cannot stand upto military scrutiny should be disposed of with a penalty.
The judges are scared of rabid mullahs and instead of giving unjust decisions they delay cases with little regard to people languishing in jails. History records that the greatest cruelties were done in the name of religion and that religion and that religion becomes the last refuge of scoundrels. Ignoring injustice will lead to more intolerance.

Making a fresh start
There is no doubt that the rapprochement between Pakistan and Afghanistan is not easy and no one should hope for a smooth road to this end. But President Pervaiz Musharraf and Chairman Hamid Karazi have taken a positive start to rebuild what has been lost. Pakistan and Afghanistan need to mend fences and work on improving their ties.
Despite problems between the two countries, there is much that they share and Karzai’s visit would give a platform to establish closer links.
During their joint press talk, the two leaders were aware of the uneasy past between the two countries, but the welcome aspect was their determination to start anew, which is the only way out of the acrimony between Pakistan and the present leadership of Afghanistan.
The two countries need each other and they should not look to anyone else to achieve harmony in their relations. It is in the interest of both the countries to live in peace than doubt each other’s intentions..

Strange praise
The United States and India, the two largest multi-ethnic democracies in the world, sharing universal ideals of freedom. President Bush told this to Vajpayee at the joint News Conference at the White House. Iran, Iraq and North Korea are the “Axis of Evil”, and the most dangerous regimes in the world, Bush declared in his State of the Union Address. Pakistan continues to acquire Missile Technology from China clandestinely says a CIA report to the Congress. Yet President General Pervaiz Musharraf is a great leader according to the US. Isn’t hat strange?

It is documented fact that people who have lost one physical attribute, say sight, have keener senses of hearing, smell, etc. the conclusions of your article follow along the same lines. To get a heightened sense of spirituality you have to shut down, or at least muffle, the physical senses. Like an involuntary muscle made to move by an expert yogi, this “spiritual” side of the brain could also be made to function by some mechanism, such as object focusing, mantra chanting or, simply, superior mind control. I am not knowledgeable about other religions, but his concept of God being in our mind and requiring a physical effort to “fire up the dormant circuits” was propounded in Zoroastrianism in about 1500 B.C. and is referred to as the “good” or “enlightened” mind.

Deep or neighbourly involvement
In recent days the US has vehemently deplored Iran’s interference in the internal affairs of Afghanistan; whereas being a neighbour Iran certainly has higher stakes than the US. This makes one wonder what the deep involvement of US in the Afghanistan can be called.
